The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), in collaboration with Animal Care Trust (ACT), Shaktinagar, and Worldwide Veterinary Service, has successfully conducted a systematic survey to assess the population of street dogs within city limits. The initiative also involved the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department, along with the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Mangaluru.

A team of 120 volunteers navigated pre-assigned routes across different wards on two-wheelers, using a specialized survey app to document their observations. The app recorded crucial details such as the dogs’ age, gender, sterilization status, and overall health condition.

The volunteers were divided into four regional teams—MCC Lalbagh, Mangaladevi Temple, St. Lawrence Church, and Surathkal MCC Zone Office. Each day, the groups gathered at 6 AM for check-ins before embarking on their survey rounds between 6 AM and 8 AM. The primary survey took place from February 11 to 13, following trial runs on February 10.

Survey findings and detailed analysis are expected to be released within a month. In recognition of their efforts, MCC Commissioner awarded certificates to all volunteers.
