Reshma Shetty and Girish Shetty, originally from Mangaluru, have become the first Indian couple to complete a 947 km run from Mumbai to Mangaluru in 23 days. Their achievement, which ended at Mangala Stadium on Saturday, is now being submitted for a Guinness World Record.

The couple, both seasoned marathoners since 2018, were inspired by a video from Tapasya Trustee Naveenchandra Hegde on fundraising for a free Palliative Care Centre for terminally ill cancer patients. They embarked on their endurance challenge on February 14, covering a marathon-length distance of 42.195 km daily, often starting at 4:20 AM to beat the scorching heat.

Along the way, they faced difficulties such as limited accommodation and food options in the ghats. Despite the hardships, Reshma attributes their injury-free journey to the blessings of ‘Kateel Appe.’ The run, symbolizing a journey from their ‘Karma bhoomi’ (land of work) to ‘Janma bhoomi’ (birthplace), aimed to raise awareness about the curability of childhood cancer.

Upon reaching Mangaluru, the duo was given a grand welcome and honored at ‘Shourya,’ a felicitation event at Town Hall. Their journey also involved engaging with banks, colleges, and organizations to spread awareness through presentations and social media campaigns.
