Mangaluru is all set to host a grand Mango Mela from May 16 to 18 at Kadri Park, honoring the beloved “king of fruits.” This festive event is a collaborative initiative organized by the Department of Horticulture, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, and the District Administration.
The official opening ceremony will commence on May 16 at 10:00 AM, with Health Minister and District In-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao inaugurating the event. The ceremony will also see the presence of Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader Fareed. MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath, representing Mangaluru South, will preside over the event. The announcement came via a press release from the Deputy Director of Horticulture, emphasizing the collective effort to highlight the region’s rich variety of mangoes and boost local farming communities.
The Mango Mela is envisioned as a bridge between farmers and consumers, aiming to offer direct market access to cultivators. Visitors can explore an extensive assortment of mango types, learn about cultivation techniques, and buy fresh mangoes and value-added products directly from growers.
With a focus on promoting regional agriculture, the event promises a festive and flavorful experience for all attendees. Organizers urge both locals and tourists to participate and show support for local farming initiatives while enjoying the summer’s sweetest offerings.
