Mangaluru: The Mangaluru Kambala Samiti, under the leadership of Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, is gearing up for the much-anticipated Mangaluru Kambala Season 8. The event will took place on Saturday at Rama-Lakshmana Jodukare, Goldfinch City, starting at 8:30 AM, with a public gathering at 6 PM. Prize distribution is set for 8 AM the following day.

The traditional buffalo race will feature competitions across six categories, including junior and senior hagga, negilu, kane halage, and adda halage. Alongside the races, painting and photography contests will add a creative touch to the event. Children aged up to 10 can join the Rangda Elya category, while those aged 10-15 can compete in Rangda Malla. The open-age Rang Koota category welcomes artists of all levels. Participants sharing reels on Instagram must use the hashtag #MangaluruKambala8.

Retired MRPL MD M Venkatesh will inaugurate the event, honoring Captain MV Pranjal, martyred in Rajouri, Kashmir. The event’s presidency will rotate, with Capt Ganesh Karnik presiding in the morning and K Prakash Shetty of MRG Group leading the evening session. Dignitaries including Speaker UT Khader, MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath and Y Bharath Shetty, and MP Kota Srinivas Poojary will also attend.

“Kambala reflects the vibrant culture of Tulu Nadu,” said Capt Chowta. “This year’s event marks my first opportunity as an MP to lead this celebration of heritage.”
