Mangaluru Police have filed a case against a 26-year-old Udupi resident, Akhilesh, for allegedly sharing inflammatory social media posts in connection with the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty. The posts, made through Instagram handles “VHP Bajrang Dal Ashoknagar” and “Shankhanada”, reportedly aimed to stoke communal tensions in the aftermath of Shetty’s killing.
According to a press release issued by the City Police Commissioner, the content was found to incite hatred between communities, prompting authorities to take swift legal action. The case has been registered under Sections 353(1) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) at Urwa Police Station.
Given the sensitive and digital nature of the offense, the case has now been handed over to the Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station for detailed investigation.
Police confirmed that Akhilesh managed both the flagged accounts and was responsible for the provocative content. Officials say the posts could have disrupted public peace and communal harmony, and stressed that strict action would be taken against those misusing social media platforms to spread hate.
The investigation remains ongoing, with cyber teams tracking further digital evidence and online footprints connected to the case.
