Mangaluru: The sixth additional district and sessions court sentenced Brian Richard Ammanna (34), a resident of Light House Hill Road, Hampankatta, Mangaluru to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for sexually harassing a woman during a party in 2021.
The incident occurred on February 5, 2021, during a farewell party for Indian Navy employee Joyline Glanel Pinto, held at Akash K S’s residence in Kodikadu, Puttur. The victim, a friend of Joyline, attended the event accompanied by her friend Niket Shetty.
Brian, who arranged catering for the party and claimed to be Joyline’s friend, allegedly spiked the victim’s drink. Later that night, while the victim stayed overnight at the residence, she awoke at 5 am to find that she had been sexually harassed.
Following the victim’s complaint, a case was filed at the Puttur Women Police Station. Inspector Timmappa Naika led the investigation and submitted a chargesheet. The trial, overseen by Justice Kantaraju SV, concluded with Brian being found guilty.
Public prosecutors B Shekhara Shetty and Chowdhury Motilal handled witness testimonies. The court also instructed the District Legal Services Authority to provide appropriate compensation to the victim.
This verdict underscores the importance of justice for victims of sexual harassment and the accountability of perpetrators.
