A surprise operation led by Mayor Manoj Kumar took place on Thursday within the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits, targeting shops and establishments that had failed to renew their trade licenses. The mayor inspected various locations, including a shopping mall and markets in the Pandeshwar and Hampankatta areas. Some shops were sealed due to the non-renewal of their licenses, while others received warnings.
The operation was initiated in response to numerous complaints from the public. The mayor stated that notices were issued to several shops, and further raids will be conducted with a team of officials in the coming days. The team included Deputy Mayor Bhanumathi PS, corporator Sumithra Kariya, and other officials.
This operation follows the mayor’s earlier launch of a ‘Trade Adalat’ on Tuesday, aimed at addressing traders’ concerns regarding the process of obtaining or renewing business licenses. He also warned that additional drives would be carried out to identify unauthorized business establishments operating without a license or those failing to renew existing ones.
Additionally, under the MCC’s 24.1%, 7.3%, and 5% funds, cheques and equipment worth Rs 10.1 lakh were distributed to 28 beneficiaries across the city, as announced by the mayor.
