Mangaluru’s City Police Commissioner, Anupam Agrawal, has suspended Urwa police station head constable Peter D’Souza for allegedly taking a selfie with a cyber fraud accused during an investigation. The incident, which was deemed a violation of departmental guidelines, has led to his suspension pending a full inquiry.
In addition to D’Souza’s suspension, Urwa police inspector Bharathi also faces disciplinary action for alleged negligence in handling the cyber fraud case. The case involved ordering high-value goods under false identities and reselling them, with the accused being involved in a large-scale scam.
Refuting claims that police officers had gone on a tour with the cyber fraud suspects, Commissioner Agrawal clarified that an inquiry had been conducted by the ACP of the CEN crime police station to verify these allegations. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to address concerns over the mishandling of the case and ensure accountability within the department.
