On Tuesday, the CCB team of Mangaluru city police apprehended two aides of underworld don Kali Yogish, who were planning to commit crimes in the city. The arrested individuals are Mohammed Haneef alias Munna (40), from Paivalike village in Kasaragod, and Mohammed Rafeek alias Mudipu Rafeek (36), from Mudipu in Bantwal taluk and residing in Vinayaka Nagara, Bengaluru rural district.

City police commissioner Anupam Agrawal reported that the police seized a country-made pistol, a revolver, 12 live bullets, 42 grams of MDMA, a digital weighing machine, a car, and three mobile phones, totaling an estimated value of Rs 10 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, a CCB team led by ACP Geetha Kulkarni intercepted their car at Falnir around 1 pm on Tuesday and arrested the duo.

The arrests were connected to a case involving Kali Yogish, who allegedly made an extortion call to the owner of Saurashtra Cloth Centre in Central Market, demanding Rs 50 lakh. Haneef and Rafeek, both with extensive criminal records, were apprehended based on this information.

Haneef faces 14 cases in Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod districts, including involvement in shootouts at a Mangaluru textile showroom, a Puttur jewelry shop, and a PWD contractor’s house in Bevinja, Kasaragod. Rafeek has nine pending cases in Dakshina Kannada, Kasaragod, and Kannur districts, involving theft, attempted murder, conspiracy, robbery, kidnapping, assault, and Pocso Act violations.

The police are also investigating the source of the weapons and previous extortion calls made by Kali Yogish, who operates from abroad.
