Mangaluru: In response to growing tensions and recent crimes, the Dakshina Kannada district police, along with Mangaluru City police, have initiated a focused crackdown on individuals linked to communal organisations. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Arun K stated that recent murders have disrupted public order and that investigations over the past decade reveal many accused were affiliated with communal groups.
To address this, authorities have compiled a list of key individuals from these organisations. Their movements and activities are now being closely tracked. Local police have been instructed to routinely interact with these leaders across the district, aiming to defuse potential unrest and ensure stability.
However, tensions flared in Kadaba when a routine police check led to resistance. A group gathered unlawfully outside the Kadaba police station in protest. In connection with this, 15 individuals have been booked for illegal assembly and protest without prior approval. The accused include Pramod Rai, Tilak, Mohan, Chandrashekhar, Mahesh, Deekayya, Sujith, Sharath, Shreyath, Umesh, Radhakrishna K, Jayanth, and others. They now face charges under Sections 189(2) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
SP Arun warned that strict action would be taken against those disrupting police work. “Even family members who obstruct lawful duties will face consequences,” he added. The intensified monitoring will remain in force until peace is fully restored.
