Mangaluru: The growing influence of communalism is threatening the peace, unity, and brotherhood of the coastal belt, warned DYFI Karnataka state secretary Basavaraj Pujar. Speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day Dakshina Kannada youth workshop held at Kalangann on Sunday, he called on young people to reject divisive politics and instead demand employment, quality education, and accessible healthcare as fundamental rights.

Held under the banner ‘Create Jobs, Safeguard Youth from Unemployment, Prioritise Local Hiring’, the event highlighted the misuse of jobless youth in communal agendas. Pujar criticised the Karnataka Congress government for its inability to rein in forces sowing division, and urged people to unite and resist these destructive trends.

Turning his focus to the Centre, Pujar slammed the BJP-led Union government for breaking its promise of creating two crore jobs annually. “There are nearly 10 lakh vacancies in central government departments, including the military. Instead of regular employment, work is being outsourced without legal safeguards, leaving the youth vulnerable,” he said.

He also criticised the state government for failing to recruit for over 2.5 lakh vacant posts. Addressing the Yuva Nidhi scheme, Pujar argued that offering Rs 3,000 and Rs 1,500 only to those who graduated in the previous year was discriminatory and inadequate. “The government must pay a minimum monthly unemployment allowance of Rs 12,000,” he demanded.

DYFI, he said, will soon launch a major campaign demanding employment rights and urged the youth to prepare for collective action.
