Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is preparing to invite tenders for the redevelopment of Mahaveer (Pumpwell) Circle and its adjoining service roads along the National Highway. This initiative aims to address the persistent traffic congestion caused by the reduced approach roads following the construction of a flyover on the elevated highway.
The MCC has allocated ₹1.99 crore each for upgrading the circle and the two service roads. Mayor Manjoj Kumar revealed that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has granted the necessary approvals for these works, which include road widening, the construction of footpaths, and other essential infrastructure.
Located in the Valencia ward, Mahaveer Circle has witnessed a surge in traffic due to rapid urbanization. The area now features high-rise buildings, commercial hubs, and malls, leading to a significant increase in vehicle density. Additionally, the lack of proper footpaths has made commuting challenging for pedestrians, highlighting the urgency of these developments.
The project will include the expansion of two service roads up to Ujjodi, aiming to streamline vehicular movement and improve pedestrian safety. This comprehensive redevelopment aligns with the city’s broader goals of enhancing urban infrastructure to accommodate its growing population and vehicular activity.
Once completed, the upgraded Mahaveer Circle is expected to ease traffic flow and enhance the overall commuting experience for residents and visitors alike.
