From Friday, 16 May, to Sunday, 18 May, the Dakshina Kannada district administration—partnering with the zilla panchayat and the horticulture department—hosts a three‑day mango mela in Kadri Park, championing the motto “Farmers → Consumers, No Middlemen.”

District‑in‑charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and MLC Ivan D’Souza unfurled the festival on opening day, granting 20 vetted vendors stalls to showcase their golden harvests and derivative delights.

Visitors can savour an orchard’s worth of premium, naturally ripened varieties: velvety Alphonso, buttery Badami, fragrant Mallika, juicy Rasapuri, luscious Malgova, blushing Sendur, sweet‑tart Kalpad, versatile Totapuri, king‑sized Benganpalli, and petite Sugar Baby, alongside novel hybrids and select overseas strains.

Speaking at the launch, Rao noted that the Mangaluru mango carnival “has consistently drawn huge crowds, and this edition will eclipse previous years with its broadened selection.” Every fruit is organically grown, sourced straight from orchards in Ramanagara, Srirangapatna, Kolar, Kanakapura, and Magadi. Eliminating intermediaries trims costs for shoppers while guaranteeing cultivators just remuneration.

Beyond ripe fruit, the fair brims with pulp, pickles, jams, and dried slices, turning the venue into a paradise for gourmets, health enthusiasts, and families seeking weekend cheer. Live demos on cultivation, tasting counters, and children’s games sprinkle extra zest.

Patrons are urged to bring reusable bags, arrive early for the choicest picks, and relish this seasonal bonanza that marries flavour with farmer welfare.
