A long-standing marital dispute took a tragic turn on Thursday when a man allegedly murdered his wife during a domestic altercation in Bajaru, Thekkaru village, located in Belthangady taluk.
The victim has been identified as Zeenath (40), a resident of Bajaru. According to police, she was married to Rafiq about 18 years ago, and the couple had two children. Over the past few months, they had been reportedly dealing with frequent quarrels and family-related tensions.
On Thursday morning, during a heated dispute at their home, Rafiq allegedly attacked Zeenath with a knife, causing severe injuries. Nearby residents and family members rushed to her aid and shifted her to Puttur Government Hospital. Despite efforts by medical staff, Zeenath succumbed to her injuries.
The Uppinangady police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Superintendent of Police Arun K confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody, and a detailed investigation is currently underway.
Authorities are also gathering witness statements and further evidence as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The incident has sparked concern in the local community, highlighting the need for stronger interventions in domestic abuse cases to prevent such tragedies.
