A major consignment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has arrived at New Mangalore Port, marking a significant boost to the region’s energy infrastructure.

The vessel, identified as ‘Pixis Pioneer’, transported approximately 47,236 tonnes of LPG from Texas, United States. Out of this, around 16,714 tonnes are currently being offloaded at the port.

Strengthening energy supply chain

The arrival of this large shipment is expected to enhance LPG availability in the region, supporting domestic consumption and industrial demand.

Officials noted that such imports play a crucial role in stabilising supply, especially amid fluctuating global energy markets.

More shipments expected

According to central government sources, this is not a one-off arrival. Several additional vessels carrying LPG are expected to dock at the port in the coming days.

With these incoming consignments, the port is preparing to handle a cumulative LPG volume of nearly 72,700 tonnes.

Strategic importance for Karnataka

The development highlights the growing importance of Mangaluru as a key energy hub in southern India. Efficient handling and storage of LPG at the port will support distribution across Karnataka and neighbouring regions.

Enhancing infrastructure readiness

Authorities at the port have indicated that adequate infrastructure and logistics arrangements are in place to manage the increased inflow of LPG shipments.

The move is expected to ensure smoother supply chains and strengthen energy security in the region.
