The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has called for a ‘flex-free’ festival season to protect the city’s environment and aesthetics. Ahead of Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, and other celebrations, MCC issued a public notice on August 5 urging political, religious, and social groups to avoid unauthorised flex hoardings, banners, posters, and buntings.
Commissioner Ravichandra Naik said ongoing drives are removing illegal displays, which not only mar the city’s beauty but also contribute to solid waste pollution. Under the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act and a 2016 government order, violators face penalties and possible criminal cases.
Naik stressed that there is no legal provision to install flex materials in public spaces and sought public cooperation under the motto: “Flex-free festival – clean environment for our safety.”
