Mangaluru – Over 200 employees of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), including civic workers, staged a protest on Wednesday, pressing for a list of long-pending demands. A key demand was that their salaries be disbursed directly through the state’s finance department, ensuring transparency and timeliness.
As a mark of protest, demonstrators blocked the main entrance of the MCC office and held a dharna, displaying placards and raising slogans. The protest, which saw participation from both officers and ground-level staff, disrupted regular operations at the civic body’s premises.
Protesters called for urgent attention from higher authorities, stating that their repeated pleas had gone unheard. Their central demand aims to streamline the salary process and reduce dependency on local disbursement delays.
Support for the strike came from within various wings of the MCC, reflecting widespread discontent across departments.
The employees warned that if the demands are not addressed soon, they may intensify their agitation in the coming days.
