Mangaluru: District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao affirmed that developmental initiatives across Dakshina Kannada will be carried out without political bias, ensuring balanced growth in every region.

Speaking after inaugurating the newly built D Devaraj Urs Bhavan and the Indira Gandhi Women’s Nursing Hostel at Urwa Store, the minister emphasized that government projects would be implemented equally across the district. He also laid foundation stones for two upcoming hostel facilities — the D Devaraj Urs Post-Matric Girls Hostel and a model post-matric girls hostel.

“Our focus is on inclusive development. Every part of the district will receive equal attention. The government’s objective is to uplift all communities and win the trust of the people,” Rao stated.

He highlighted that new hostel buildings worth nearly ₹5 crore were inaugurated, with two more projects set to begin shortly. Acknowledging the district’s educational prominence, he noted that Mangaluru attracts students from across Karnataka, leading to a surge in demand for student accommodation.

“Given this growing demand, especially among girl students, hostel infrastructure will be prioritized,” he added.

Reiterating the state’s commitment to women’s empowerment, the minister mentioned schemes like free bus travel and a monthly ₹2,000 stipend for eligible girl students, designed to promote their independence and education.

The ceremony was presided over by MLA Vedavyas Kamath. Dignitaries present included MLC Ivan D’Souza, Sandalwood Development Corporation chairperson Mamatha D S Gatti, MUDA chairman Sadashiva Ullal, Culture Academy president Sadananda Mavanji, DC Darshan H V, ZP CEO Narvade Vinayak Karbari, and welfare officer Bindiya N Nayak.
