Mangaluru: District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao assured that all development initiatives in the district will be carried out fairly, without favouring any political group. He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating key infrastructure projects on Friday.

The minister opened the newly built D Devaraj Urs Bhavan and the Indira Gandhi Women’s Nursing Student Hostel. He also laid the foundation stones for two major hostel projects – the D Devaraj Urs Post-Matric Girls’ Hostel and a Model Post-Matric Girls’ Hostel at Urwa Store.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, stating that every part of the district will receive equal attention when it comes to development works. “The aim is to uplift all communities without bias, and to build trust among the people,” he said.

Highlighting the educational prominence of the region, Rao pointed out that Mangaluru attracts students from across Karnataka, leading to a surge in hostel demand. Special emphasis will be placed on expanding student infrastructure, particularly for girls, he added.

Rao also spoke about the state’s welfare initiatives for women, including free bus services and a monthly stipend of ₹2,000 for female students — efforts aimed at promoting their independence and access to education.

The event was presided over by Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath. Among the dignitaries present were MLC Ivan D’Souza, Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation chairperson Mamatha DS Gatti, MUDA chairman Sadashiva Ullal, DC Darshan HV, and ZP CEO Narwade Vinayak Karbhari.
