On Friday, an Expression of Interest (EoI) was signed between Mangalore SEZ Ltd and Italy’s MIR Group to establish a manufacturing unit for producing energy-efficient building materials. The facility will focus on items like Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) panels, thermal insulation materials, sodium-ion batteries, and thermally insulated doors and windows. The agreement also includes energy-efficient design consultancy and retrofitting services.
The EoI was formally exchanged between V. Suryanarayan, CEO of Mangalore SEZ Ltd, and Raffaele Marrazzo, CEO of MIR Group.
Attending the event, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta stated that MIR Group plans to extend its operations beyond Italy and has chosen Mangaluru for this venture due to its suitable infrastructure. The proposed facility will span around 10 acres and involve a phased investment of approximately ₹1500 crore. MIR Group will proceed with the project following the necessary approvals.
Nitik Ratnakar, Director and Architect of MIR Group, shared that the company aims to transform Mangaluru into a green energy hub, catering to both Indian and global markets. The investment will significantly boost the region’s green energy capabilities and contribute to sustainable building solutions.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing Mangaluru’s role in the global shift toward energy-efficient construction and green technologies.
