Mangaluru – During a legislative session, MLA Vedavyasa Kamath accused the state Congress government’s anti-communal task force—based in Dakshina Kannada district—of acting as an “anti-Hindu task force.”

Kamath alleged that in coastal areas, incidents of cattle theft have surged, with culprits breaking into sheds, stealing cows, and killing them. He also claimed that cases of “love jihad” are on the rise, alongside increasing drug trafficking due to Mangaluru’s proximity to Kerala and its large number of educational institutions. According to him, these are the real triggers for unrest in the region. “If these issues are curbed, there will be no riots and no need for additional police forces,” he said.

The MLA criticized law enforcement for what he termed “selective action,” claiming that police have been raiding the homes of 75–80-year-old Hindu activists at night while ignoring provocative statements made by Congress leaders. He pointed to MLC Ivan D’Souza’s remark about removing the Governor “on the Bangladesh model,” alleging that no case had been filed against him, whereas false cases were being booked against BJP supporters.

Kamath warned that such perceived bias and inaction on key law-and-order issues could heighten public anger in the district.
