Mangaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka state education minister Madhu Bangarappa’s ‘inability’ to speak Kannada has raised concerns about the quality of education being provided to students, according to MLC S L Boje Gowda. Following his election victory, Gowda visited the Koragajja shrine, emphasizing the urgent need to address the 50% vacancy in teaching positions.

IAS Officers Creating Confusion in Education Sector

Gowda credited teachers for his electoral success and pledged to resolve their longstanding issues, which have persisted across various administrations. He criticized the role of IAS officers in complicating matters within the education sector, calling for a clear distinction between permanent and contractual positions and urging officers not to overstep their boundaries.

Education Should Be Accessible to All

Highlighting education and healthcare as fundamental constitutional rights, Gowda lamented that quality education has become a privilege for the affluent. He condemned the government’s failure to provide essential education infrastructure and criticized the education minister’s inability to speak Kannada, which he deemed an embarrassment to the state’s linguistic heritage.

Textbooks Not Available for PUC Students

Gowda also pointed out the unavailability of textbooks for first-year PUC students, reflecting poorly on the government’s preparedness. He called for equal treatment of government and aided schools, uniform training for teachers, and the involvement of education experts in curriculum development rather than political interference.

During the event, Boje Gowda was felicitated by the Koragajja Seva Samiti Trust. Notable attendees included Dakshina Kannada District Yuva Janata Dal president Ashwith Suvarna, Koragajja Seva Samiti trustee Deviprasad Shetty, Vithal Abura, and Dr. Ismail.
