As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has enhanced the learning environment at local government schools by decorating their walls with vibrant, educational murals. This initiative aims to make learning more engaging and accessible for students in schools around the MRPL vicinity.
The murals feature a wide range of educational and cultural themes, including maps of India and various states, information about flowers like roses, diagrams of digestive processes, and depictions of the daily life of farmers. Other visuals include illustrations of plantain crops, paddy fields, and portraits of Karnataka’s literary figures. These colorful paintings offer a rich, visual learning experience that was previously available only in textbooks.
Teachers now use these murals as teaching aids, guiding students through the visuals for better understanding, rather than relying solely on traditional blackboard lessons. Schools in Chelaru, Kuthettur, and Soorinje have already benefited from this initiative, which has made the educational experience more dynamic and engaging.
MRPL has a long history of supporting social welfare projects, with a focus on education, health, cleanliness, and infrastructure development. This latest effort, which integrates art and education, further highlights MRPL’s commitment to enhancing the community’s well-being.
Artist Valerian Lobo, who led the project, expressed that the murals were created to foster a positive learning atmosphere, and were made possible through MRPL’s CSR funding.
