Lokayukta police apprehended a revenue inspector in Mulki on Thursday for accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh. MA Nataraj, Superintendent of Police, Karnataka Lokayukta, Mangaluru division, identified the accused as GS Dinesh, a revenue inspector in Mulki. Dinesh allegedly demanded and received the bribe to enter the names of legal heirs in the Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crops (RTC) column, the SP reported.
The complainant had submitted an application to the Mangaluru taluk office last year, requesting the inclusion of heirs’ names in the property records following the death of their grandmother. However, the application was forwarded to the Mulki revenue inspector’s office, where it remained unaddressed for over a year. On December 9, when the complainant followed up on the matter, Dinesh demanded a bribe of Rs 4 lakh to process the request. Unwilling to pay for a service that should be provided by the government, the complainant reported the matter to the Lokayukta police.
On Thursday, Lokayukta officers caught Dinesh accepting the bribe near Surathkal junction. He was promptly arrested, and the bribe money was recovered. The operation was led by DSP Gana P Kumar, along with PIs Suresh Kumar, Amanulla A, and Chandrashekar KN. The investigation is ongoing.
