Mangaluru: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to complete at least a two-lane section of NH-75 between BC Road and Periyashanthi by the end of May 2025. This initiative, aimed at easing traffic congestion on the critical Mangaluru-Bengaluru route, was reviewed by Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta during a site inspection on Thursday. The MP assured the public that the monsoon season, starting in June, would see fewer travel challenges as at least two lanes will be fully concreted, with the exception of Neerakatte, where rock blasting operations are required.

Project updates

The 48 km stretch from BC Road to Periyashanthi has seen 35.3 km of concrete work completed so far. However, delays have occurred due to rock blasting and slope cutting, particularly in areas requiring road straightening. The MP clarified that controlled blasting is being used in residential zones, which adds to the timeline.

Flyover completion dates

Significant progress has been made on flyovers at Panemangaluru, Melkar, Mani, and Uppinangady, with over 90% of work completed. The Kalladka flyover is expected to open by May 1, while the Mani flyover will be ready by the end of March. The Panemangaluru and Melkar flyovers are nearing completion and will be ready by February’s end.

Addressing public concerns

During the inspection, local residents raised concerns about lack of village access post-construction and potential flooding due to the raised height of the highway. The MP instructed officials to address these issues, including dust control and the potential development of a foot-overbridge at Soorikumeru.
