Nirkan Parishioners celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Nirkan Unit, marking the Ruby Jubilee year with a lively event called “GADYANTH EK DEES” on Sunday, July 21, 2024. The festivities took place in a picturesque paddy field at Harkady of St Thomas the Apostle Church, Nirkan, starting at 10:15 am.

The day kicked off with a vibrant procession featuring buffaloes and enthusiastic game teams. ICYM President Rolvish Fernandes and Secretary Leesha Lobo introduced the honored guests, setting the tone for the event. A hymn performed by ICYM members was followed by Fr. Leo Lobo’s inaugural address. The Parish Priest and ICYM Director highlighted the event’s role in promoting community unity and praised the ICYM members for their efforts.

The celebration featured special recognition for key guests, including agriculturist Leo Fernandes and sponsor Peter Walder. The main attraction was a buffalo race in the scenic paddy field. Teams, organized by age and color-coded, competed in various games like Running Race, Reverse Race, Dog & the Bone, and Tug of War.

Team Pink, led by Vincent Bennis and Neslin Priya D’souza, won first place, while Team Green, led by Valerian Lasrado and Leesha Lobo, secured second. The event also included a dance performance by YCS and ICYM members, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The ICYM Bantwal Deanery office bearers, including President Arrol Jackson Sequeira and Secretary Melroy D’souza, participated in the celebrations. ICYM Nirkan President Rolvish Fernandes welcomed the attendees, and Secretary Leesha Lobo thanked the supporters. The event, compered by Sweedal Rodrigues and Henvil Valder, concluded with joyful faces all around.
