The Nitte Master of Public Health (MPH) programme recently organized a heartwarming event, ‘High Five for Fun’, aimed at bringing happiness to the young residents of Snehadeep Home for Girls in Bondel, Mangaluru. The event brought immense joy to the 22 HIV-positive girls living at the orphanage, creating a day filled with fun and laughter.

The initiative began by understanding the specific needs of the girls, followed by a ten-day fundraiser titled ‘ABCD – Any Body Can Donate’, which encouraged donations starting from Rs 5. The fundraiser successfully raised Rs 41,237.68 from over 180 contributors. On Sunday, the MPH team arrived at Snehadeep with gifts and plans for various activities, including games like Simon Says, Name Catch, Dumb Charades, and Memory Tray.

Tabassum, the managing director of Snehadeep, expressed gratitude, stating, “Even if it is not for donations, we would love for people to visit and conduct activities for at least half an hour every now and then. This alone makes a big difference to us.”

As the event concluded, each girl received personalized goodie bags, containing a beautifully crafted stole, a face towel with their initials hand-embroidered, a set of rubber bands, and a writing kit. Earlier, on February 21, the MPH team had also donated a month’s worth of groceries to Snehadeep and presented a cheque for Rs 10,000 to further support the home.

The MPH team involved in this effort included Dr. Malvika Nayak, Dr. Charan KS, Dr. Risha Dutta, Dr. Navyashree N, Dr. Ashith PC, Dr. Sushma Asadi, faculty members Dr. Neevan D’Souza, Mr. Prajwal Jupiter Lobo, and MPH coordinator Dr. Mackwin D’Mello.
