A large limb from a Peepal tree, which had long offered shelter to the public near a traffic signal in the city, unexpectedly snapped and fell on Monday evening, leaving three people injured who were standing beneath it.

The incident took place when the branch suddenly gave way, causing it to tumble. At that moment, several individuals, including women and students, were waiting for a bus in the area. The three injured people were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Fire and rescue teams from Pandeshwar quickly arrived at the location and cleared the debris. The incident caused a temporary disruption in traffic flow. Additionally, power lines below the tree were severed, and newly installed sheets at a nearby auto-rickshaw stand were damaged.

Local residents expressed frustration, stating that they had previously raised concerns about the tree’s overgrown branches, but no action was taken, which ultimately led to the mishap.

Upon learning of the event while attending a session in Bengaluru, MLA Vedavyas Kamath swiftly contacted former corporator Poornima, instructing her to visit the scene. He also called the deputy commissioner and the Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner, urging them to cover the medical costs for the injured and ensure the prompt removal of the fallen branch.
