A tragic road mishap on Sunday claimed the life of a young pillion rider, Suganth SP, in a collision involving a two-wheeler and a container truck near the Haleyangadijunction along National Highway 66 between Mangaluru and Udupi.
As per the complaint lodged by Insaf K, the two were on their way back to their hostel in Mulki after attending a wedding in Surathkal. While riding along the highway, a container truck—allegedly driven by Manjunath Churi—approached from behind and attempted to overtake their motorcycle.
In the process, the truck’s left front wheel reportedly struck the bike’s handlebar, causing both riders to lose balance and be thrown off the vehicle. In a horrifying turn of events, the truck’s left rear wheel ran over Suganth.
Bystanders quickly helped shift the injured duo to a private hospital in Mukka. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced Suganth dead on arrival due to severe injuries. Insaf survived the accident with minor injuries.
Mangaluru North police have registered a case and are investigating the sequence of events leading to the fatal crash.
This incident highlights the continuing dangers on busy highways and the critical need for cautious driving—especially while overtaking two-wheelers on congested roads.
