Mangaluru: The Sullia police intercepted and seized four lorries illegally transporting laterite stones worth ₹43,750 from Murur to Madikeri. The operation was carried out following a tip-off, leading to swift action by the police team near Adkar in Jalsoor village.

Tip-off leads to major seizure

Acting on credible information, the Sullia Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and his team conducted a vehicle check on Sunday. During the inspection, officials discovered that all four lorries were loaded with a total of 1,750 laterite stones, being transported without valid permits.

The police immediately seized the vehicles to prevent further illegal transport. The estimated value of the lorries is around ₹45 lakh, making it a significant enforcement action in curbing mineral theft in the region.

Legal action initiated

A case has been registered at Sullia Police Station under multiple sections, including BNS Section 303 (Theft), Section 4(1) of the 21 MMRD Act, Karnataka Minor Mineral Concession Rules 3, 44 & 66(1), and Section 192(a) of the IMV Act.

Authorities stated that further investigation is underway to determine the source of the illegal stones and the individuals involved in the transportation racket.
