Mangaluru: A fresh round of police transfers has commenced in the sensitive Dakshina Kannada district, following a state-wide reshuffle of police personnel ordered by the Karnataka government.
This decision follows the recent murder of Abdul Rehman in Mangaluru, which led to swift administrative changes including the replacement of the city’s police commissioner and district SP. In their place, the government appointed senior and strict officers to restore law and order.
As per the latest transfer list, Pramod Kumar, currently the inspector of Udupi Coastal Security Police, has been named the new inspector of Surathkal Police Station, taking over from Mahesh Prasad. Known for his firm policing and integrity, Kumar has served at various stations across the district and earned public trust.
In another notable change, Inspector Shivakumar, who faced criticism for his role in the Kudupu mob lynching case, has been removed from Mangaluru Rural Police Station. He is being replaced by Gaviraj R P, formerly posted at Chikkamagaluru Town Police Station.
The Mangaluru East (Kadri) Police Station has also seen a major change. Inspector Somasekhar, who was suspended for alleged links to a high-profile job scam, has been succeeded by Ananth Padmanabha from the coastal security unit.
In a broader move across Karnataka, 36 sub-inspectors have been promoted to circle inspectors. Among them is Nandakumar, previously stationed at Punjalkatte, who has been promoted and posted to the DySP’s office in Mangaluru.
