Late Wednesday night, an electricity pole was damaged, and six poles were uprooted near Ekkaru Bantara Bhavana along the Bajpe-Kateel state highway 67 in Ekkaru town. The mishap caused Mescom a significant loss of Rs 1.10 lakh.

With electricity and high-tension cables strewn across the road, Mescom lineman Guru Bhat took immediate action. He disconnected the power supply, preventing a potential disaster and saving three youths who were inside a nearby car. Guru Bhat also cleared the fallen wires from the road, ensuring traffic could move safely.

However, around 3 am, another pole collapsed near Ekkaru Bhajana Mandir, creating another dangerous situation. Guru Bhat, alongside fellow lineman Ramesh Shetty, returned to the site to clear the fallen cables and poles from the road, preventing further hazards.

Local youths Lekhan and Chinnu played a key role by assisting the linemen, warning drivers and riders of the downed wires. Despite their efforts, a few two-wheeler riders fell as they failed to spot the wires in time. Fortunately, no severe injuries were reported. The public expressed gratitude for the quick and selfless actions of the Mescom linemen and the local youths.
