A private bus, operating with a valid route permit, was penalized Rs 5,000 for violating regulations by boarding passengers at Mangaluru Central railway station. The bus was transporting passengers who had arrived from Mumbai by train.

At Thokkottu, the bus was stopped by members of the Dakshina Kannada Taximen’s and Maxicab Association, who reported the breach of rules to the police. Their concern stemmed from the increasing trend of private vehicles and buses picking up train passengers, which they believe is unfairly affecting their livelihood.

Following the complaint, local authorities imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the bus. This action is part of a broader effort to curb violations of transportation rules that impact local taxi and maxicab drivers. The Taximen’s Association has voiced strong concerns, highlighting that the influx of private vehicles and buses picking up train passengers is exacerbating their financial strain. They have appealed to both the police and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to take stringent measures against such violations.

The association members argue that stricter enforcement is necessary to protect the interests of local drivers, who rely on transporting passengers from the railway station as a significant source of income.
