Puttur: Krishna J Rao, son of BJP leader Jagannivas Rao from Puttur, has been arrested by police after allegedly impregnating his classmate and subsequently disappearing to avoid responsibility. The arrest took place on the night of July 4, 2025, in T. Narasipura, Mysuru.

Krishna reportedly refused to marry the girl once he learned about her pregnancy and went into hiding, leaving the victim and her family devastated. The young woman later gave birth to a baby boy, prompting her family to file a complaint with the Dakshina Kannada District Women’s Police Station.

Following mounting public pressure and protests from various organizations, the police intensified their search for the accused. After being on the run for 10 days, Krishna was finally located and taken into custody by the district police team in Mysuru.

The accused is currently undergoing interrogation, and legal procedures are underway. Authorities confirmed that appropriate action will be taken as per the law. The case has stirred public outrage, especially among women’s rights groups, who demanded swift justice for the victim.

The arrest has also drawn attention to issues of accountability and consent, sparking debates on the importance of supporting victims of abandonment and betrayal in relationships.
