The Palakkad division of Southern Railway has strongly denied accusations made by retired Indian Air Force officer P V Sureshan, who alleged that railway police at Mangaluru Central station assaulted him, resulting in the amputation of his leg.
Railway officials cited CCTV footage from February 1, which reportedly shows Sureshan, allegedly intoxicated, resting on a bench near the food plaza. When railway personnel asked him to leave, he was seen walking away independently. The footage has been submitted to the railway police as evidence. Additionally, no complaints from other passengers regarding police misconduct have been recorded.
Authorities stated that Sureshan was later admitted to Wenlock Hospital due to health concerns. Medical reports indicate he was suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes—conditions that could have led to his leg amputation. The railway department asserted that there is no proof of any physical attack or forceful removal causing his medical crisis.
This incident has sparked discussions on accountability, passenger treatment, and the verification of claims involving law enforcement personnel.
