Mangaluru: Road accidents and crime cases in Mangaluru city have shown a significant decline over the past year, a positive trend highlighted by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ravishankar.
Remarks at journalist bus pass programme
DCP Ravishankar made the statement while inaugurating a free private bus pass distribution programme for journalists. The initiative was organised by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association in collaboration with the Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners’ Association at the Press Club on Thursday, August 21.
He praised the role of journalists, stating, “Journalists face several challenges in their professional lives. Yet, I have observed that they continue to uphold truth and justice while acting as the voice of society and fulfilling their role as the fourth pillar of democracy.”
Acknowledging responsible journalism
The DCP also commended the district’s journalists for exercising caution in their reporting, especially when covering sensitive matters that could potentially impact society negatively.
Conclusion
The declining trend in road accidents and crime, coupled with responsible journalism, reflects the city’s ongoing efforts toward safer streets and informed public discourse. Initiatives like the bus pass programme also demonstrate support for media professionals who play a vital role in the community.
