An incident of road rage unfolded at Sharbath Katte, within Mangaluru East police station limits, around 2 am on Sunday, resulting in injuries to four individuals.
Accounts of the Incident
According to the complainant, he and his friend Gururaj were returning home after attending a cricket match at Urwa Maidan when they were confronted by Lyle Rebello, who allegedly made derogatory gestures towards them. Following Rebello’s car to note down the number plate, Gururaj exited their vehicle near Bhadrakali Temple, where Rebello purportedly attempted to run him over.
The situation escalated at Sharbath Katte, where Rebello allegedly abused and assaulted Gururaj with a dagger, injuring both Gururaj and the complainant. Gururaj is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Contradictory Claims
In a counter-complaint, Rebello and his friends allege that they were followed by another car from Pumpwell, and upon stopping at Sharbath Katte, a man from the other car abused and attempted to assault Rebello. Allegedly, the situation escalated with Rebello and one of his friends being assaulted with an object, resulting in injuries requiring medical treatment.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The incident has sparked conflicting narratives, necessitating a thorough investigation by the authorities. Both parties have sustained injuries, and legal action is expected to follow as the police work to ascertain the sequence of events and identify responsible parties.
