Scientists from the Central Coffee Research Institute are set to submit a report on the feasibility of growing Robusta coffee in high-altitude regions of Sullia and Belthangady taluks. Horticulture Deputy Director Manjunath stated that once the report is finalized, funding will be sought from the Coffee Board to expand cultivation. With over 2,000 acres of areca plantations in 10 villages, including Aranthodu and Thodikana, affected by yellow leaf disease, coffee is being considered a viable alternative.

During a KDP meeting, Bharath Mundodi criticized the lack of concrete solutions for yellow leaf and leaf spot diseases despite three decades of research. Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Murulya urged the government to introduce financial aid for farmers transitioning to alternative crops.
