MLA Ashok Kumar Rai announced that Rs 1,010 crore has been sanctioned for a comprehensive drinking water project in the Puttur constituency, with Rs 400 crore already allocated and work underway. This project aims to supply water across the Puttur assembly constituency and to 28 villages in the Sullia constituency. In total, the constituency has been allocated Rs 1,476 crore in 2023-24 for various development initiatives.
Under the “Namma Grama Namma Raste” scheme, funds will be granted to develop 68 km of roads. Rai emphasized plans to make the Puttur-Uppinangady road a model stretch and noted that flyovers at Mani and Panemangaluru are set for completion in November, with Kalladka’s to follow in December. Fruit-bearing trees, including wild mango and nerale, will be planted along Puttur’s roadsides to attract local wildlife, and Rai urged residents to protect the new saplings.
The DKMUL plans to create a facility on 15 acres in Puttur to boost local employment, while 150 acres have been allocated for industrial development, with an initial Rs 300 crore investment interest from two entrepreneurs. Tourism projects are also in motion, including a Rs 570 crore development proposal for the Sangama site at Sahasralingeshwara Temple, submitted to NABARD, to enhance the area as a tourism hub.
In addition, Rai voiced ongoing efforts for a government medical college in Puttur and a proposal for a synthetic track and cricket grounds for better sports facilities. Responding to criticism for attending a VHP event, he clarified his commitment to his role and to Congress, while reaffirming his respect for all faiths.
