Puttur: A tragic road accident on National Highway 75 near Shiradi claimed the life of a 59-year-old scooter rider after he was hit by a car.

The deceased, K J John, a resident of Mittanaje Kottayil in Shiradi village, was returning home after a visit to Shiradi town. The collision occurred when he attempted a U-turn in front of the Indian Oil petrol pump, and a car traveling from Bengaluru to Dharmasthala rammed into his scooter from behind.

John sustained critical injuries and was initially admitted to Ashwini Hospital in Nellyadi. He was later being transferred to Mangaluru for advanced medical care but tragically passed away en route. He is survived by his father, wife, three daughters, and a son.

A case has been registered at Uppinangady police station for further investigation.

Coincidentally, former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was traveling along the same route from Bengaluru to Mangaluru at the time of the accident. The injured victim was taken to the hospital in a vehicle that was part of the former MP’s convoy.
