Mangaluru: Rev. Fr Albert Gregory Menezes, a senior priest of the Diocese of Mangalore, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the age of 94 at St Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu.

Born on December 23, 1932, Fr Menezes hailed from Agrar and was the son of P Jacob Menezes and Mercine D’Souza. He was ordained to the priesthood on December 5, 1959, and dedicated nearly seven decades to religious service and pastoral ministry across the region.

Nearly seven decades of priestly service

Fr Menezes began his pastoral ministry as Assistant Parish Priest at St Lawrence Church, Karkal, in 1960. He subsequently served in Belle, Udayavar, Kirem and Bejai.

He later served as Parish Priest in Nellikar, Vittal, Ajekar, Hosabettu, Kanajar, Gangoli, Petri, Bolkunje and Kalathur.

His other responsibilities included serving as Chaplain at Mary Hill in 1992 and Parish Administrator in Mukka in 1999.

Served communities across the diocese

Over the decades, Fr Menezes served in numerous parishes and pastoral assignments, dedicating his ministry to the spiritual and pastoral needs of the faithful.

In 2008, he retired to the Senior Priests’ Home at St Antony’s Institute before later moving to St Zuze Vaz Home in Jeppu.

His long priestly journey made him a familiar and respected figure among the communities he served across the Diocese of Mangalore.

Funeral Mass on August 24

The funeral services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026.

The Funeral Mass and Burial Rites are scheduled for 3.30 pm at St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia.
