Members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the alleged mass killings in Dharmasthala have departed for the temple town to begin their inquiry.
The SIT is led by DGP (Internal Security Division) Pronab Mohanty, while the on-ground operations in Dharmasthala are being spearheaded by DIG (Recruitment) M N Anucheth. SP Jitendra Kumar Dayama has been appointed as the Investigation Officer for the case.
Personnel from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Chikmagalur districts have been mobilised and are expected to arrive in Belthangady, the base of operations, either by this evening or early tomorrow.
An SIT office has already been established in Belthangady, and preparations are underway to equip it with the necessary infrastructure to support the investigation.
Sources revealed that a key strategy meeting was held earlier at the CID headquarters in Bengaluru, where officials discussed the broad direction and approach the investigation would take.
The SIT’s presence is expected to bring clarity and transparency to a case that has drawn widespread public attention and concern.
