Mangaluru: Police in Mangaluru South have taken six individuals—identified as Ganesh, Shreyas, Chintu, Chandan, Nagaraj, and Ramachandra—into custody for allegedly intimidating a college girl in an incident linked to moral policing.
According to officials, the episode unfolded on Monday afternoon at the city’s service bus stand. The complainant, a pre-university student, had just finished her classes and was waiting after her friend boarded a bus. She was conversing with a male relative of that friend when a group of seven to eight men reportedly approached them.
The men are accused of verbally abusing her, questioning her for interacting with a man belonging to a different faith, and issuing threats. The intimidation caused the young man to walk away from the scene.
A short while later, a police patrol vehicle arrived at the bus stand. The student narrated the incident to the officers on duty. She then returned home, informed her family members, and—encouraged by their support—filed a formal complaint.
Acting swiftly on the report, police tracked down and arrested the six named suspects. Authorities stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the other individuals involved in the confrontation.
Officials reiterated that such acts of harassment and communal bias will not be tolerated, and strict legal action will be pursued against those engaging in moral policing.
