Mangaluru: Emphasizing the growing demand for skill-based learning, Kanta Naik, Chairperson of the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation, said that traditional qualifications alone are no longer sufficient for employment. She was speaking at the inauguration of Sauharda Beary Utsava 2025, a three-day cultural, educational, and job fair held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

“Despite academic degrees, many youth remain unemployed due to a lack of practical skills,” Naik observed. She noted that the Corporation has begun introducing skill-oriented training from as early as Class 8 and continues to host job fairs across the state. At a recent job fair in Kalburagi, 27,000 job seekers had registered, she said.

Naik added that the Corporation is ready to support young job seekers with guidance and opportunities to improve employability across sectors.

Arathi Krishna, Deputy Chairperson of the NRI Forum, Karnataka, also addressed the gathering. She encouraged individuals aspiring to work abroad to register with the Forum to receive essential support. “We’re planning to organize a job fair soon. There’s a high demand for nurses and construction workers in countries like Japan and Italy. With proper language and skill training, working overseas can become much easier,” she said.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP also attended the event. Organizing committee president G A Bava shared that over 100 firms from India and abroad participated, with nearly 5,000 youth registering for the job fair.

The Utsava also featured educational guidance sessions, medical and blood donation camps, business forums, food stalls, competitions, and cultural programs.
