Mangaluru: The Karavali Dermatology Society (KDS), in association with the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) Karnataka, the Department of Dermatology, Father Muller Medical College, and IMA Mangalore, successfully organised ‘Skinathon: A Walk for Skin Health’ on March 2, 2025, in Mangaluru. The event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of unqualified skin treatments and the importance of consulting certified dermatologists for skin and hair disorders.
Awareness walk from IMA to Father Muller
The walkathon, which saw the participation of over 100 individuals, commenced from the IMA Mangalore office and concluded at the Father Muller Medical College Ground. With Mangaluru City Police providing traffic support, the event ensured the smooth passage of participants along the designated route.
The primary objective of the event was to educate the public about the risks posed by skin quackery — the practice of unqualified individuals offering skin treatments. Participants distributed awareness pamphlets to the public along the route, urging them to consult qualified dermatologists (MD/DVD/DNB) for skin and hair concerns.
Inauguration and addresses
The event began with a welcome address by Dr Rochelle Monteiro, President of KDS, who stressed that skin should be treated by experts, not through experimentation. Dr Jessy Dsouza, President of IMA Mangalore, also addressed the gathering, emphasising the need for professional medical guidance in dermatological care.
The walkathon was officially flagged off by Dr Manjunath Shenoy, former national president of IADVL, along with Dr Narendra Kamath, Community Dermatology Coordinator.
