Mangaluru: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) and Sierra Learning Academy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce two industry-integrated undergraduate programmes designed to embed professional experience within the degree structure. The programmes will commence from the academic year 2026.
The collaboration is anchored in a clear principle: by the time students graduate, they will have completed a full year of structured, paid industry internship within their academic framework rather than entering the workforce with only theoretical preparation.

The two programmes introduced under this collaboration are:
- BCA in AI-Augmented Software Systems
(Software Engineering, Cloud Platforms, Automation, Applied Artificial Intelligence) - B.Sc. in Media and Creative Technologies
(Media Systems, Design, Creative Technology, Professional Production Workflows)
Both programmes follow a structured three-year model that integrates academic coursework with progressive industry immersion.
Academic structure with embedded internship
In Years 1 and 2, students will build strong academic foundations while simultaneously engaging with industry-oriented assignments, applied projects, professional toolsets and mentor-led sessions. Industry professionals will participate through structured lectures, studio interactions and guided project reviews.
In Year 3, students will undertake a full-time, paid industry internship for the entire academic year. Unlike short-term training modules, this internship is embedded within the curriculum, carries academic credit and places students within professional teams under structured mentorship.
By graduation, students will possess not only their degree but also one full year of documented professional experience.
Curriculum developed with industry participation
A defining feature of the programmes is that industry engagement begins at the curriculum stage itself. The framework has been developed in collaboration with organisations that are part of the broader internship and recruitment ecosystem.
Professionals from these organisations will serve as mentors, guest faculty and project evaluators throughout the academic journey. Projects and assessments are structured around real industry problem statements rather than hypothetical case studies.
This ensures that by the time internship and placement processes commence, students are already working within networks where their capabilities and professional conduct are known.
AI integrated across disciplines
Artificial Intelligence is not treated as a standalone subject limited to one semester. Instead, it is integrated across learning modules — from automation and cloud systems to media production workflows and creative technologies.
Students will work on industry-relevant software platforms and production systems from the first semester. Professional discipline, collaborative practice and ethical application of technology form part of the academic culture.
Addressing the classroom–workplace gap
For students in Mangaluru and surrounding regions seeking undergraduate programmes in AI, software systems or media technologies, this initiative offers a structured pathway that combines academic depth with sustained industry exposure.
The model seeks to bridge the long-standing gap between classroom instruction and workplace expectations by positioning industry as an academic partner from Year 1, rather than as a placement-stage visitor.
Sierra Learning Academy has previously delivered mentor-led training programmes involving learners from institutions such as IITs, NITK and other nationally recognised institutes.
“A classroom should feel like the workplace. Same tools, same pace, same problems. The only difference is, here you have mentors helping you rise every time you stumble. That’s the environment we’ve built,” said Vinol Savio D’Costa, Founder, Sierra Learning Academy.

Selective, aptitude-led admissions
Admissions to the programmes will be selective and aptitude-driven. The process includes:
- A structured aptitude assessment evaluating logical reasoning, pattern recognition and problem-solving ability.
- A personal interview assessing motivation, communication clarity and alignment with an industry-embedded learning model.
The focus is not on prior expertise but on identifying students with disciplined curiosity and learning agility suited to a rigorous, practice-oriented environment.
Admissions for the 2026 academic year will open in advance of the academic session, with detailed timelines to be announced through official channels.
Institutional profiles
Established in 1880, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) holds NAAC A++ accreditation (Cycle IV) with a CGPA of 3.67 out of 4.0 and was ranked 58 in the College category in NIRF 2024. The institution was granted deemed-to-be-university status by the UGC in 2024.
Sierra Learning Academy, based in Mangaluru, specialises in industry-aligned education across software systems, artificial intelligence, media production and creative technology. The academy has trained over 2,000 learners and emphasises portfolio-based evaluation and employer-aligned skill benchmarks.
Through this collaboration, both institutions aim to establish a structured undergraduate pathway that aligns academic excellence with measurable professional readiness.
