Mangaluru: St Aloysius Pre-University College celebrated its 146th Annual Day on the college grounds under the theme ‘One Planet, One Purpose – Peace’. The arrival of dignitaries, escorted by NCC cadets, set a ceremonial tone, followed by the college choir’s soulful rendition of “Be a Light”, marking an inspiring start to the programme.

Chief Guest inspires students

Chief Guest Mr Michael D’Souza, noted entrepreneur and philanthropist, urged students to embrace discipline, honesty and hard work. He reminded them that self-belief leads to self-respect and that success comes to those who are prepared, not merely talented.
He also stressed the influence of good friendships, the importance of accountability and the vital role teachers play in shaping both intellect and character. He commended the staff for maintaining high standards and nurturing holistic growth.

Rector’s message on becoming ‘bearers of light’

In his presidential address, Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, praised Principal Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ and the team for executing a well-planned event. Drawing from the choir’s prayer song, he encouraged students to become “bearers of the light” and lauded their contributions in academics, sports, arts and cultural activities.

Celebrating student excellence

The prize distribution ceremony recognised outstanding achievers in academics and sports. Scholarships and memorial awards were presented to students who excelled at state and national levels. The honours reflected the spirit of Magis — striving for excellence with purpose.

Principal Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ highlighted that education extends beyond textbooks to character-building and service to society. He congratulated students on their achievements and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
