Despite facing controversy over alleged disparaging remarks made by an English teacher against religious practices and political leaders, St. Gerosa English Higher Primary School has reported robust admissions for the upcoming academic year. Additionally, the school has achieved commendable results in the SSLC examination.

Enrollment Trends

The school, which offers both Kannada and English medium education, has witnessed strong enrollment figures across various grades. Sister Aileen Mathias, the public relations officer of the Sisters of Charity of Saints Bartolomea, Mangaluru division, revealed that the English medium Class 1 has reached its capacity, with all 50 seats filled, leading to the closure of admissions. Moreover, many students from other schools have transferred to St. Gerosa, enrolling in classes ranging from grades 2 to 7.

Impact of Controversy

However, the incident in grade 7, where the alleged remarks were made, resulted in seven students obtaining transfer certificates to leave the school. Sister Aileen attributed this departure to the customary transition of students after grade 7 for high school studies. She clarified that while the recent incident may have influenced some decisions, the overall functioning of the institution remains unaffected.

Exceeding Expectations

Despite challenges, the school has surpassed its enrollment target for the higher primary section, nearing 740 admissions against a goal of 750. Additionally, there is a strong demand for admissions in the LKG and UKG classes.

Academic Achievements

Alongside enrollment success, St. Gerosa has demonstrated academic excellence with an impressive SSLC result of 98%. Out of 153 candidates who appeared for the exam, 150 passed, with 44 securing distinctions. This marks an improvement from the previous year’s SSLC result of 94%.

Conclusion

Despite facing adversity, St. Gerosa English Higher Primary School continues to thrive, attracting students and achieving academic milestones. The institution’s commitment to quality education remains unwavering, fostering a positive learning environment for its students.
