In April, Dakshina Kannada district witnessed widespread damage to its power infrastructure, with 1,574 electric poles and 19 transformers affected due to intense winds and rain, as per Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Mescom) officials.

To tackle the fallout and ensure all consumers regain access to electricity, Mescom has intensified repair operations. Throughout the month, around 4,500 km of overhanging or intrusive tree branches near power lines were removed. Additionally, 332 worn-out poles were replaced and 86 km of power cables were restrung to stabilize supply.

A total of 70 dedicated repair teams have been deployed across the district. Reinforcing the effort, 150 additional gangmen and 29 vehicles have been assigned specifically for pre-monsoon restoration and maintenance work.

Mescom has also urged the public to make use of its 24×7 helpline by dialling 1912 for any power-related complaints or emergencies. Officials assured that proactive steps are being taken to reinforce the electricity network’s reliability ahead of the monsoon season.
