Bantwal— The water level in the Netravathi River witnessed a sharp and unexpected surge on Thursday, prompting local authorities to issue a precautionary alert for residents living near its banks.

As per official data, the river’s level measured 6.7 meters at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday. However, by evening, it had climbed to 7.4 meters and further rose to 7.5 meters by 8:30 p.m.

The danger threshold for the Netravathi River is 8.5 meters. While the current situation has not triggered any flooding, the rapid rise has raised concerns.

Officials have urged residents in low-lying areas along the riverbanks to remain vigilant. People have also been strictly advised not to venture close to the river, given the potential risk of further rise due to upstream rainfall.

Emergency teams are monitoring the situation closely, and precautionary measures are in place should the water level continue to rise.
